Buying Lime From The Limehouse

Then there was the limehouse next door more or less, just across the road anyhow.

We used to hire a brush for tuppence, y'know a limebrush as we called it. And ah, oh and I was going to say half a hundred-weight of lime for whitewashing the scullery like and things like that - whatever you wanted it for, that's what we used to use it for anyhow, and whitewashing chicken runs out.

Most of it had gone by the time we got home - cos coming home see along what we called the long tunnels, y'know, with the big Comptons there, with all the water - we used to chuck most of it in to see it all bubbling and fizzling to the top.
