Playing Germans and Good 'Uns

Oh yes, there was one time I didn't tell you about, now this concerns Jim.

Now this was before my time - this would have been, I should think, during the 1914-18 war. Course Jim was only a young lad then, and I was just crawling around as you might say.

Anyhow by all accounts at the bottom of the street there was a spare patch of land, and Jim and another two more they got down there playing about -

"Lets play Germans and Gooduns."

Well of course, they picked the sides, so many on the German side, so many on the English side, y'know. (???) spread out at the bottom of the street like, y'know. Oh a proper do y'know, they had the tent flap and all, flapping the top of the tent on top of the dugout like. They decided they should all go for it like y'know, so off they goes, the Germans y'know, scamping around and a German always down in this dugout. All of a sudden he said

"Wait a minute, Lads. I'll just have a peep about like y'know and see if we can anybody about."

He lifted the flap up and all of a sudden (???) and put his head through. Somebody's (???) biggest (???) you ever did see down on Jim's head.

Well that was the end of the war for Jim. Whether it really affected him, I often wondered.

Something going wrong with this tape somehow. I'll just try and fix him up a minute.

Actually I think three parts of us had rocks dropped on our heads one time or another.
