Fred Gets A Job

But there are so many things I remember, I mean I can't put 'em all down here now or else I should want a tape I was gonna say a mile long.

Fred Dunford.
Fred Dunford

I was just thinking about Fred when, Fred was out of work a lot, for years Fred was out of work a lot, I think it was round about 1926 I should say, round about that time, in the twenties anyhow, Fred got a job at the Pressed Steel. Well Pressed Steel then was not in Swindon. The nearest was Oxford - Cowley. Well the poor kid didn't have any money, he couldn't afford to lodge up there. So what he did, I think it was just for the one week, he cycled backwards and forwards to Oxford, or Cowley - which was another three mile on from Oxford. He cycled backwards and forwards, night and morning, until he had his, you know, cos he didn't get paid that first week see, until he had enough money to pay for his lodge.

And that is a fact.

That was what they call - The Good Old Days.
